THE STORY

Khan Md. Sayeed grew up in a house with a turntable his family carried back from Germany. His mother studied at Chayanaut; his elder brothers played Warfaze and Iron Maiden loud enough that he inherited the habit.

His grandmother, the late Zaman Ara, wrote for Begum magazine and once published a book of poetry about her grandchildren — Skib among them. Reading how she turned the ordinary into verse is what set him writing. The first poem he remembers finishing was an angry one about his father, after failing an exam.

Eminem and Tupac opened the door — “8 Mile was an eye-opening experience” — and nu metal held it there. When Deshi MCs started, rock already had an audience in Bangladesh and rap had none. They went anyway.

“Bangla Tape (Vol 1)”, his first solo album, landed in March 2022: a record about what a boy actually lives through in Dhaka, including “Kanna”, about men's mental health — a subject Bangla music largely leaves alone.
